3 Awesome Ways for Teachers to Connect This Summer

Summer is just getting started, but so are the opportunities to learn and connect with other teachers around the world! I recently came back from ISTE in San Antonio and was inspired by this talk (“You’re Invited to Change the World”) to really make my focus for the summer and coming year to connect. There are always a multitude of opportunities to connect during the summer, but these three are what I sent out to my staff!

Summer of Twitter: Teacher Challenge

This “teacher challenge” is all about getting educators on Twitter and providing easy steps for connecting with other teachers. Since we launched this challenge over 100 schools have signed up to participate. I’d love for every teacher who is thinking about joining Twitter to check it out, and let me know if you have any questions!

The 30 Goals Challenge

Over 9000 educators have joined Shelly Terrell’s The 30 Goals Challenge since January 2010. You have the opportunity to join a community of educators throughout the next few months of 2013 as we aim to accomplish 30 short-term goals related to education. These are short-term goals we reflect on and see how they help us aim towards long-term goals to make us better educators. We support each other through various social networks- Our Facebook groupYoutube, Twitter (#30GoalsEdu), Livebinders, and blogs.

The 20% Time Academy (MOOC)

We’ve done a great job running 20% time and Genius Hour at my school. It’s been a amazing opportunity for our students to explore their passions and create products based around their interests. This July, teachers from around the world are coming together to learn about 20% time and Genius Hour, and share their experiences online in a MOOC. The course officially starts next week. Access Code to join is: ZXQ2B-8CWMV
